Hi! My iPhone got water damaged this weekend, and after a few hours in rice it works alright. However, the home button isn’t working at all and is randomly pressing itself. It wouldn’t be huge problem if it wouldn’t press itself all the time, making the screen staying on most of the time and exiting apps randomly when I’m using it. I don’t mind using the AssistiveTouch feature, but would like to disconnect the home button completely. Would that likely stop the random activation of the button? And would there be a problem with using the phone if it doesn’t have a home button connected at all? I’ve never used TouchID, so there’s no loss in getting rid of that. Thanks a lot!
Sure, you could even replace the Home button with a generic click-only model but as you note, you will lose TouchID. If you do this, you should keep the original HB as you never know if someone in the future will want to have it (and possibly repair it). However, the risk with water damage, especially one that wasn’t cleaned up (rice does literally…nothing) is that other issues may crop up over time depending on where the water went. You should probably remove the logic board to see if there are any other visible residues that would indicate potential downstream issues.
