The iPod works when connected to the charger in the wall, but not otherwise. I suspect the battery but no way of testing. How?
you are correct. most of issue which you mentioned occur from the battery. you can analyze the battery using battery tester if battery not swollen. if battery swollen not requred to test just replace it
