Chosen Solution
Hello, I have found similar questions to mine, most offering to make a fusion drive by adding an SSD blade. This is not a good option for me. My internal HDD is failing in my iMac 27" (late 2013) and I am using an external Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD currently. I would like to remove the HDD and put the SSD inside. I plan to buy the kit for replacement and a 2.5" to 3.5" tray for the SSD: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSD2… My question is however the case of the thermal sensor, do I need the thermal sensor as seen on the OWC website here? https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIDI… If so, where would I stick the sensor on the SSD? Many thanks for answering.
Daniel - I strongly recommend you stick with the hardware solution. Overtime we have learned the software direction is not healthy to be dependent on. It tends to lag which can fatigue your logic board and it can over rev the fan causing it to fail prematurely. Both could cost you either a burnt logic board and/or fan unit. It you care about your investment you’ll need to add in the inline thermal sensor from OWC. I do recommend you install a good thermal sensor & fan app like this one: TG Pro for less than $20 US its worth it to see whats happening and I do use the turbo function when I’m playing a heavy graphics game to keep the system running cooler when it’s the most stressed.
