I need to replace the hard drive on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro. iFixit offers many replacement drives and, after reading every review of hard drive replacements that I can find, I’m concerned that a “SATA III SSD (6.0 Gb/s)” may not be compatible with my machine. True? If so, what, if anything, can I do to avail myself of the benefit of SSDs?
Your machine has a Serial ATA (3 Gb/s) bus, SATA II. Most SSD drives are SATA III 6Gb/s. A lot of the drives are backward compatible. So just look at the specs on the drive to confirm that it is backward compatible to SATA II.
