My son has an iPod and it recently stopped accepting a charge. I’ve taken apart many devices before but wasn’t sure where to start with figuring out what is wrong with this one. I figured taking it apart and putting it back together would be a good start (especially since he is a young kid and has likely dropped it a few times). Any suggestions or guides for how to diagnose?

Replacing the battery would be a good first step however it does require soldering. There is no specific guide to replacing the battery but you can use this one nonetheless. If the battery doesn’t solve the problem, then you likely have a defective charging circuit on the logic board. This can be caused by using non-genuine chargers.

Does the charging port cable plug in fully without gap? If not clean out blockage inside port with toothpick or equivilant. Make sure to avoid touching the 5 charging pins in the port. They can only be pushed down and not pushed to the side.
