Chosen Solution

My son has an 8GB iPod Touch that he has not used in sometime and has forgotten his passcode. We do not know what generation this is but would guess at either 1 or 2. While trying different combinations he has now rendered the iPod disabled. We no longer have the computer that this iPod was last synced on. We have tried numerous solutions on this and many other sites and have had no luck. The device is fully charged and when the power button is pressed a red screen appears stating- iPod is disabled connect to iTunes. The screen then goes black after approximately 5 seconds. The following message appears on the screen of our laptop- iTunes could not connect to the iPod “Brandon’s iPod” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes. Again we have tried several suggested solutions to restore and DFU but no luck. The home button appears to function fine physically but we have no way of knowing if it is a problem or not. Any help is much appreciated!

Scott, here is my answer from a similar question How to I fix my disabled iPod Touch? See if this will help. Apple says “If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.” Now there is a way to erase the password but I am not sure if this would work when you are already disabled. I guess you can always try and hope you have a windows computer :-) anyhow you plug in your iPod. Open My Computer (or Computer for Vista). Click on Folder options and enable to view hidden files. Next go to iPod_control and click on the folder named Device. If your iPod is locked, there will be a file _locked . Rename the file to _unlocked. Remove your iPod and it will be cleared, again not sure if it works for a disabled one. Just thought of something else. Make sure you have your library backed up. Also check what Apple has to say about that on here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 Of course, also look at this" “You can unlock it putting the device into DFU mode and then restore it with itunes, BUT this will erase all data on your iPod. Here is an excellent description how to place your iPod in DFU mode. Hope this helps. If not, let us know and let us know what computer OS you are using. Hope that this will get you back on track
