French message will follow. Hi everyone, I have an ipod Classic 7th (or 6+). Since I recently decided to use it again, I noticed the center button felt odd. But there was nothing to worry about at first. Recently, I change the battery, the Hard Drive for a memory card and the grey faceplate. Everything worked fine for a while but the center button still felt “wrong”. Sometimes it worked on the first try, sometimes I had to push a little bit harder. Finally, one day, the center button gave up. The others button are fine. I believe they are fine but I can’t test it anymore. I can still scroll in the menus. I have restored the ipod twice. I have finally opened the Ipod again to take a look. I did not see anything strange or irregular inside. I tried to press the center button directly on the pcb but it still does not work. I can clearly hear the click with or without the “plastic cover button”. At this point, I am starting to think something wrong with the motherboard. But I am kinda a novice and can be wrong. So maybe you guys will be able to help me before I buy a new one. :) PS: I bought this ipod on ebay. I do not believe someone opened it before me. But the first time I opened it, I found an extra loose screw star head. Any idea where it can come from ? Thanks in advance for your time.
Update (09 November 2021) Allo, Thanks for your help. Last time I used a multimeter was in high school more than a decade ago. Be gentle ahah Here what I found: The ipod: https://ibb.co/sHLwsg5
How I measured: https://ibb.co/mHFZnBC
Measure before the button pressed: https://ibb.co/CVx7KZj
During I pressed the button, the measure the value was 0 or very close Measure after the button pressed: https://ibb.co/jVc5ZXw
Tried to did my best not to move. I am not sure where the “measure after the button pressed” comes from. For some reason, the center button was working a little bit today. But not the play button anymore…. What do you think ? Thanks again :) PS : sorry for the delay and thank you for your help :)
@yoshk if you are 100% certain that your button depresses the switch, try to assemble your iPod without the center button. Depress the switch manually by using a pencil with the eraser side pushing the switch. That way you will know if it is the click wheel, or the logic board. The other thing you can do is measure the switch itself. Attach the leads from your multimeter to the bottom two contacts, you should see that the switch does have some resistance, and total continuity when depressed. If the switch itself checks out okay, you may have to replace the logic board. Hope this helps, good luck
