My iPhone5 is out of warranty (2 Years old). My problem is that my display goes black after some usage (on average less than a minute time). I think this is not the normal display problem of black scree. I have already done home+power restart, restore/update to latest software. History of problem: One day my phones display suddenly went black. I googled and quickly found the home+power button solution. Upon restart my display was on for some time and then again went black. After that since last 15 days my phone display goes black after some random amount of time and then after waiting for some time and pressing power button it again turns for some time and then again goes black. The more I wait the longer my display stays on after turning on. I can receive calls and messages etc when the display is blank. Another piece of information that I think is the major to pinpoint the problem is that, 3 months ago some my phone got some water damage after I was drenched in rain and there were some white spots on the display due to that. The amount of water was very less and My phone was working fine except those annoying small white spots. I want to repair my phone myself as there are not many good service options in my country but I am not sure if it is a display problem or some other chip/cable problem. If anyone has a clue what could be the exact problem that would be a life save for me.
Hello I do belive this is a faulty display I fixed the same problem that was happening in a 5s . It would go black randomly home or power would not activate but vibrate worked that’s how I knew it was still on and not turned off. After a new screen the black screen disappeared
I assume you tried charging the phone with the AC adaptor for at least 30 minutes, with no response. Right? If you did, you need to reset the phone (no data loss): Press both home and power buttons for up to 1 minute, releasing when the Apple logo appears. However if your power button is “kinda broken”, you won’t be able to reset, and you only option is replacement or repair.
Chain saw, it could be that a new display fixed the issue, without the person who asked the question coming back to mark the solution as accepted. If your iPhone was never opened before, I advise you to try a new known good display to see if it fixes the issue, like con says here above. Best would be if you could borrow one from another phone for your trial. You can use this guide to attempt the repair. If it doesn’t work, let us know so that we may discuss other issues that could be causing it.
hello guys. I have the same problem. Can anyone confirm the above solution(changing the display) works? because, i am going to try the solution myself too. i tried all the other solutions available on the net and met the apple service centre guys. they asked 3/4th amount of the new phone itself to repair, they said that it is the amount apple charges for repair and service charges etc. i cant spend much money for the repair guys… help me. Update Hello guys. That solution didnt work for me. Still waiting for my mobile to be fixed…
Just encountered the same problem on my iPhone 5 which is also out of warranty. The longer I leave it, the longer I get to work on it when its on again. Your post is from October 2014 so I was wondering you must have figured what’s wrong by now. Care to share? Any help at this point of time would be appreciated.
Well I did changed my screen and it worked like a charm, at least was before I sold that stuff and bought new 5S. Replaced display was cool and not looking very promising.
same just happened to mine it would be totally unresponsive but a new screen fixed it
Well it appears some may have fixed this issue by replacing the screen. My wife’s iPhone 5s is having same issue. Wish me luck as I will be replacing the screen too. I will come back to tell you if it worked or not.
Then,I will also change the display.
Sounds like the back light on the display has damaged due to water getting into it. A new screen should sort it out.
It worked! Changed the screen yesterday and works like new!
The screen is damaged. If you need a new one, you can but it through the online store. More replacements are on sale.http://www.iboxfix.com/screen-c-164_12_1…
Hey guys. Can you tell me what is the price of the screen? I feel like people here are charging more. So I just want to confirm. Thanks.
OK sooo I’ve read alot of these answers but i havent seen anything like whats going on with mine i had dropped my phone and went with a cracked screen for about a year until the screen chipping got outta hand and glass was coming out really bad i order new screen replaced it it work GREAT for about a week i got a new otterbox so the phone has not been outta the case after the new screen yesterday it was at 50% battery when the screen went out RANDOMLY i took the screen off realized one of the connectors wasnt on all the way i have fixed it but the screen still doesnt work…
ive been having that problem since october the minute it first happened for the first time i went to apple and they said it was just the display so they replaced the screen and then the issue then came back a month later and just yesterday it happened again 3 times and now its back to normal but im scared its gonna happen again so the solution was only fixed for a while and no one in my family thinks its happening they think im doing it purposely for a new phone

iphone screen went black but is still on and working and what do i have to do
It might happened to you and at that moment, you don’t understand what to do, yes, I am talking about when your iPhone is on, but the screen is black. You are really surprised that your iPhone is ringing but it’s not possible for you to answer the call. Here is a solution of your problem http://bbcpak.com/2016/09/fix-iphone-scr…
My iPhone screen goes totally unresponsive after the phone goes into idle. I did a factory reset on it and I’m still having the same issue. The phone has never dropped nor has it ever had any water damage.. if this is a hardware issue, then why does it reboot after i do a soft reset? I want to believe mine has more to do with the software or iOS because this literally only started happening after I updated the software.. someone please help because I’m not about to pay a $@$* load of money for something that could be easily fixed :(
