Chosen Solution

Hello, I have an iPhone XR that is stuck in a boot loop. It happened after attempting to back-up the phone using iTunes (the phone’s memory is full), and I got a message that said that there was an error during the backup. I unplugged the phone and all the apps were stuck and wouldn’t open, so I tried restarting the phone. It has been stuck in a boot loop since, when it turns on I just see an Apple logo, and sometimes it blinks. Force restarting doesn’t help, it just keeps showing the Apple logo after it turns off. I also tried to bring the phone to “recovery mode” and I see an option on iTunes that prompts me to either update or restore, but after the update downloads it tells me that it couldn’t update because the “firmware is not compatible”. I read about DFU recovery mode, but it seems like that would do a full restore (losing data). After some research I found some programs like: Fonelab, iMyFone D-back, Dr.fone, and Tuneskit. There is a trial option, but I think I will have to pay to use it, which I’m willing to do, but I want to make sure it will work. Does anyone have any experience with these programs, or something similar? Or is there any other way to try and restore the iPhone’s OS without losing data? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as there’s a lot of data that I’d hate to lose…

AFAIK none of the software you mentioned would be able to recover your data since you have a bootlooping, even less they can help you getting out of bootloop. The only App I’d feel like trying would be 3Utools, does the same as iTunes but at times it reaches where iTunes fails. Just choose the option to update and keep data if you want to give it a try. Don’t blame me if things go wrong, I’m not the developer nor have personal interests with them, mine is just a possible alternative, each has to take one own responsabilities.

The only option to recover data from a bricked iPhone on apple logo is to apply an update on top. This option would be to update the phone rather than restore it which would wipe your data. Usually what happens is if it’s successful you’ll be able to backup the phone and free up space. If it is not successful you’d get a error code usually between -20 to -30 which most of them indicate file system corruption that is unrepairable without a restore . You can also try forcing an update while the phone is in DFU mode. I believe this option is only available in 3utools to do it that way.

Arbaman is right, your phone has to boot before those third party recovery programs will work. Since it is not booting it would be a waste of money. If your phones memory is indeed full there is no solution at the moment to retrieve it. My advice would be to put it in a draw with your passcode and hope Apple will have a change of heart in situations like this and let you downgrade the IOS. Ben might be able to give you some more details if he reads this thread.

Hello, I have the EXACT same problem with my XR from ‘“all the apps were stuck and wouldn’t open” to the error in Recovery Mode while updating, I’m hoping to find a solution to recover my data too, in fact I just want my pictures… Did you find a solution ? Best,

hi. i have the same problem as yours. I’m doing a back up with my XR on Itunes and there was an error. I already tried the Update option in recovery mode and it also failed. I don’t want to reset to factory settings. I will lose my travel photos =( is there anyway I can recover my photo while in the bootloop? I still have 1month before my warranty expire, should I bring it to apple support?

Hi I was actually dealing with the same issue phone randomly went in a bootloop and I couldn’t update my iOS and was thinking to send to a third party recommended by Apple since it may also be a hardware issue. We’re you guys able to figure out if it was a hardware or software issue?

I am having all the same problems mentioned above, and all over the internet. Only been using the Xr for a year. I have spent money on the fix-it programs praised on YouTube and none have worked. Apple stores are closed due to the Coronavirus (so they should really step up and help right now - just answer every question online for so many struggling due to what is out of our hands?!). Why can Apple create phones that each have increasing cases of the SAME problems, but vanish or charge for or throw their hands up on solutions? I really hope someone comes along with a working solution, A FREE SOLUTION, purely out of true kindness. Like a Robin Hood Programmer! <3 :D

I would send it to ipad rehab, they are world known. They charge 300 dollars and if they can’t get the data they don’t charge you. They have a YouTube channel iPad rehab ipadrehab.com the owner is jessa. She just got data off of an ipad that was left out in the weather for 10 months. She has reretreived many iPhones that has water damage and wouldn’t turn on. You has been on news programs and has done videos for ifixit.

Hey! I just wanna know have you gotten your phone fixed? Mine is bootlooping as well and I don’t want to lose my data :( Hope you can help me here. Thank you

Hey, I’ve got similar storage and bootloop problems but somehow It was fixed successfully. Got iPhone XR, IOS 13.6.1, data was backed up only to several months ago. Couple of days ago I’ve got a notification about full storage, tried to delete several files, applications and videos, but it was not seemed to be actually deleted. Thought a restart would help, and got into the boot loop situation. Read online and was very worried about the potential data loss. First tried using 3Utools “iTunes flash” - “retain user data” option with the same IOS installed (13.6.1) but got error 3002 in about 10% of the process. Tried using 3Utools “iTunes flash” - “retain user data” option with newest IOS 14.2 and got another error with a frightening message (“The drive will be deeply formatted after the reboot to prevent the recovery of drive data”). Tried the same with 3U tools “easy flash” - “retain user data” and got similar message. So I stopped using 3Utools, and started using ITUNES (latest version of 12.10.10.2 from 22.10.2020). Used Apple’s manual for an Update https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201412 , was patient though nervous and almost the whole process seemed fine, no error 14 was received. Only in the end of the update process got on the iPhones’ screen a frozen white background with apple logo, but heard notification sounds from the device. Made a force restart and the device got back to life, with the latest data used before the bootloop, and with the updated IOS of 14.2 instead 13.6.1! I’m not sure what made it work differently than other reports here. Maybe the latest ITUNES version, or the fact that I actually had about 3-4GBs free in the device. Not responsible for the stuff I’ve reported here. Good luck!

I have an iPhone 6 with 64 GB of storage, just yesterday I recorded a lot of videos and it stopped automatically due to full storage. When trying to send photos using LINE, the app keeps on crashing so I tried to delete videos from Photos app. The videos disappear but suddenly return back to Photos, then I opened recently deleted folder to clear it first before attempting to delete other videos, but when I opened recently deleted folder, all of its contents are white and they won’t disappear even after I select delete all. I thought maybe a quick restart will fix it but I was wrong, my iPhone was stuck in bootloop for hours. I tried updating through iTunes but keep getting Error 1100 three times. Finally I tried 3uTools, tried iTunes Flash 3 times but still getting Error 1100, then tried Easy Flash but the connection was interrupted so I need to force restart my iPhone twice and restart the 3uTools program, didn’t continue using Easy Flash so I don’t know what will happen, I instead try iTunes Flash once more and it succeed, my iPhone turned on with all data still intact.

Hi, would you be interested in joining a support group I made on Facebook on boot loops to tell your story? Also what is iTunes flash, dont think I’ve heard of it Here’s the link to the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/81585966

You can contact Apple Genius to try it out. I think your device may have a hardware problem.

I dont have much info but this exact same thing happened to my Iphone 8 plus 2 nights ago. I have called many data recovery specialists and they all pretty much say the same thing- they cant bipass error 14 to get to the data. I was also told to keep my phone, dont do anything else to it, and maybe one day apple or technology in generally will come up with a way to bipass error 14. I am devastated as well, as I lost very special, important pictures and videos of my sons birth and his first 4 months of his life. I am so sorry you all are dealing with this too.

Same issue as the previous poster, but with lots of different information about potential causes and solutions. I’m devastated. The phone was 6 months old. I had many precious memories and pictures of my kids and daughter who was born just days after I got the phone. With Covid19, options are further limited. Apple was initially no help and I need to set aside hours to try and get to the right person. I had iCloud back up turned on and it would not work. It kept saying there was an issue. My memory was full (phone, not iCloud). We tried to get the pictures off and on to the computer and that wasn’t working either. Prior to it going into a boot loop, it was turning off and restarting. If it wasn’t for stores being closed, I would have brought it straight in when I realized I couldn’t get the pictures off. I was told there were “86 updates I was behind on.” How is that possible when I had the phone 6 months? No way haha. Every time I speak with Apple they are short and reading from a prompt and throw their hands up after I try the 1-2 basic things they suggest. I must not be calling the right support. Never once did the phone tell me I had an update. They told us I had the settings turned off, but that wasn’t true to my knowledge. I had even looked for an update because I figured after months I would of had one. If that were true, it came that way and I had no idea. The back up phone they overnighted to me appeared different in the settings. I want answers to why? This has happened to me with each and every phone and iCloud is NOT safe alone for your pictures. It has never worked for me, even when I’m doing everything right. It never automatically downloads connected to power and on WiFi like I set it up to. If it does download it picks and chooses some of my data now and then. Why?! I’m devastated at the thought of losing all my pictures and videos of my kids. I could careless about the phone. When looking at the iCloud I can see that there is a back up… but I can’t see what it is and nor could Apple. I’m tired of them sending me replacements and demanding my new phones back with my precious data and they throw their hands up to a solution beyond replacing my phone and likely with a refurbished one to boot (they claim it’s new, but I beg to differ). Stand by your products. Help people out. I feel like I lost something incredibly special to me and they act like it’s no big deal. $1500 phone should not have that many issues after 6 months. I might not have been the greatest owner, but I did what they said and it never worked. I have regrets with how I handled things and being too trusting of that device. After the years of heartache over these issues I should just move on from Apple products altogether. I go through periods of time where I only use my cameras for pictures and videos. I suggest the same to anyone else. Use the phone as a phone only. It’s why I find I have no need for an iPhone. If I can’t get my pictures back and this keeps happening, I don’t want an iPhone at all. Will be using my nicer camera for everything from now on. Back up your camera pictures to multiple places. Memory cards are cheaper these days. Save those and still back them up. It’s what I’m going to only be doing from now on. I got into a habit of reaching for my cell. We use them too much as it is. I’ve learned my lesson. I hope I can find the right person to get my data back for me. I’m willing to spend the time and the inevitable money to get my things back. We have looked into a lot of third party data recovery companies. It’s what I would suggest after you’ve exhausted every option. My phone is now stuck in recovery mode. We plugged it in to update when it was stuck in the boot loop and it appeared to have updated, but somewhere failed and I still couldn’t get my phone back. I’m not a tech wizard and I’m going to spend time trying to educate myself. I refuse to take no for an answer and believe there’s no way I can retrieve my data. I have read in several places this is common with the new phones. I’m mad at myself for being trusting again just to be the most disappointed I’ve been with an Apple product. I do think there is hope from all the research and companies willing to try (many that won’t charge unless they get your data). Potential picture/video loss is a terrible feeling! I am stuck in an ugly sad limbo until I have tried everything. I’m pretty upset about it. I feel sorry for anyone who has been here. Guess I’m the fool, it’s not my first time! Organize your precious pictures and videos and back them up to multiple places. Don’t trust ICloud. Use an actual camera more often. All I have to say. Hopefully I find a someone with a solution, to which I will sing it’s/their praises. Fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone!

I’m having the same issue! My phone had told me that my storage was full a couple times today and wouldn’t let me take pictures. I was at my best friend’s bridal shower and I was in charge of taking pictures. I went into my camera roll, deleted a ton of photos, emptied my Recently Deleted section, and then I was fine to take pictures. When I got home, I went through and deleted more old pictures, that weren’t of value to me, and emptied my Recently Deleted again. (So that I wouldn’t have the issue of my phone storage being full again in the near future.) Afterwards, I opened Snapchat to check it before bed and the app shut down. This happened 3x and then I finally just shut my phone off because I thought it may need a ‘break’. When I turned it back on, I was stuck in a boot loop for hours. (I had hoped that plugging it in might help, because I wondered if the battery had been low before I was able to get my hands on my bf’s work phone to try to research how to troubleshoot the issue.) It just continued to boot loop. I watched a YouTube video that suggested a hard reset. (A quick Volume Up, Volume Down, then holding the side button until the Apple logo disappears because the phone shuts down, then reappears and you let go of the side button.) The boot loop continued. I have now just shut my phone off by doing Volume Up, Volume Down, and holding the side button until the Apple logo blinks and letting go when the phone has shut down, before the logo reappears in an attempt to reboot. My phone didn’t back up to iCloud yet, after the shower this evening, so I can’t just restore anything from my last update because it would mean that I’ve lost ALL of the pictures of her bridal shower that I can never get back.

My iPhone X was stuck in a boot loop as well. I let it go completely dead (took about 1.5 days) hoping that it would refresh once charged for a few minutes. NOPE, still didn’t come on I let the battery die out again and left it alone for a few days and it came back on. YAYY! RIGHT!? Nope a few days later it went out again and came back on 10 minutes later. Now, here I am again and it went out, it have been out 3 days and still isn’t working. I wasn’t thinking I should’ve checked the last back up. I’m scared to try any of the options listed because I really need some pictures and other stuff off of my phone. Hopefully, it will come back on soon

How is Apple okay with this I have years worthy of memories and pictures and travels in there so many important things. My iPhone told me it was full I went to delete nothing would delete so I decided to restart it and it went into the boot loop and there’s absolutely nothing I’ve been able to do to fix it. There is no way this is it. How can I iPhone just mess up like that. Apple should get sued for this. Nothing can even bring back those precious moments. Not a million dollars. This cannot be okay. Update (06/29/2020) Hi everyone, It has now been two days and I’m completely devastated and depressed and anxious about this. I suffer from anxiety and it has been so bad since this. I created a fb group for support because I realized the amount of people who have gone through this is insane and it should not be happening especially to new phones. I think we should get together and sue Apple because their response to this is not okay. If dozens of us come together then Apple can’t keep just sweeping this under the rug. This is 100% an Apple problem and error. It would be different if it was water damage etc but it’s not. And with the amount of technology we have in this world in 2020 how had Apple not already made a fix for this. A way to preserve data even if the phone crashes or a way to bypass it so no data is lost. How do we have artificial intelligence but we can’t get precious irreplaceable memories back from our phones. This means Apple products are unreliable is that what Apple wants as their reputation? My phone has 250gb worth of space I still don’t believe it was full. I got ONE notification for the very first time telling me it was full and I went to delete pictures right away. I actually had 100 in my recently deleted and thought it was perfect to give me some space to delete more. But they would not delete. I did the next normal things anyone would do which was to restart the phone as I thought it was glitching and it actually restarted but it wouldn’t properly load and bam went into boot loop. My heart completely sank in that moment and I haven’t been okay since then. New iPhone XS with screen and phone protector. I had my 6s for the longest time. It would tell me all the time it was low on storage and I would just go and delete photos and apps and go on living my life. Not once did it ever crash on me and go into boot loop! Everytime I think about my pictures I can’t help but crying I feel sick to my stomach. Thanks to google I have some photos backed up. I got my phone November 2018 and google backed up till July of 2019 but in this last year I didn’t realize how many precious moments I had in just one year. I had 5 trips on there 1 to Isrrael after my mom best cancer and also two birthdays trips and a very special 30th birthday party. Also had tons of pictures of dogs I’ve saved from my local kill shelter. Which is what I spent my time doing this whole lady year. Completely irreplaceable. It’s my birthday this week and I was so excited but I could care less now because it feels like I lost a year of my life. Apple needs to respond to everyone’s new phones doing this. This is not okay. They cannot just throw up their hands at this problem and just tell you to restore. Loosing months or years of memories on a product you paid $1000+ should not be their answer! This is an Apple error and they must address it. How can data be retrieved from iPhones in floods and fires but not when it was an Apple error? Here is the fb group. I had to create it on my boyfriends fb account for now as I am currently phone less. I will be trying to get another phone as I refuse to restore my iPhone and lose the chance of ever getting anything back. I have hope Apple will do the right thing and create a solution for this in the future. Please join and share so we can come together and make Apple listen to us. I’m devastated. My XS Max was sending warning errors about being full. I tried taking things off of it and could not do it. Then one day the apps weren’t working well so I restarted the phone and it wouldn’t start up again - got stuck in boot mode. After hours on the phone w Apple support we tried to download the new software and I keep getting error (47) which sounds identical to what others are getting with error (14). I am told that the iOS 13 has errors where a full phone becomes corrupt. I have all of my photos and videos of my newborn’s birth and young son, our family trip to Spain. I am so upset that Apple would let this problem occur. In the past when my phone was full I could take things off of it and now I’m told unsympathetically by Apple that I should know the phone can’t become that full. I do not have a back up because my plan was to take things off of the phone. Apple, PLEASE send through a fix in your iOS which allows this problem to be fixed. For phones to get out of recovery mode and to let the corruption problem be fixed. This is exactly one of the reasons why people switch to Androids. This is very upsetting and Apple I beg you to send a fix in your new iOS updates.

Same thingg happened to me. Iphone XR, storage full. Tried to backup on my computer, it got halfway and then said the iphone disconnected. I said i’ll try again tomorrow, and restarted my phone as it was being super slow and deleting texts. I got stuck on boot loop, and then now it is in recovery mode. I tried to update it on itunes, and I am getting the error 14. I am beyond devastated, I’ve lost 2 years of memories as I have not backed up since then. I’m putting my phone in a drawer, and waiting until iOS 14 in hopes that apple will push out some kind of fix. If enough people bring it up, maybe we can get their attention. This is so ridiculous and heartbreaking to so many peopl.”e. How can a phone literally stop working at full storage? That sounds like a bug in the code to me

Just FYI, Tenorshare reiboot fixed my wife’s phone. This is an XS Max that might have gotten slightly wet when handled with wet hands near the pool. It was stuck in the apple logo - reboot cycle. Tried other advice to restore OS using itunes just got it stuck in recovery mode. iTunes failed to restore, giving error 4013. So I tried the tenorshare program to get it out of recovery mode. That worked, and not only that, but the phone is working normally again and all the data was intact. First thing I’m doing (in progress right now): backup everything before it goes on the fritz again.

I had apple logo boot loop. I tried tenorshare reiboot, dfu mode, force restart etc but nothing helped. My Face ID has some water damage due to few drops of water. So when I opened the phone and detached Face ID connection, it worked fine but at a loss of Face ID recognition. I backed all the data and had a technician replace the Face ID

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC1oDcvS… anyone tried this one ?

Most bootlo issues tend to be hardware related. Most commonly I find it to be the proxy sensor.

Unfortunately having the same problem, memory full and now phone on reboot loop. Having photos of my one year old since child birth. Can’t even tell how devastated I am feeling right now. Bought iPhone because love taking photos but now can’t get them because of this stupid apple problem. What kind of technology advancement they are making when can’t fix these basic issue. I feel sick to my stomach that I can’t get my photos back.

This happened to my XR today. I refuse to loose 2 years of all the memories of my kids

With so many cases I think we should sue or request iPhone collectively did that they restore our data’s by physical extraction, they may charge us but it still worth it as loosing data is devastating, I’m currently hospitalised after loosing my data to boot loops and updating , hope out joint complaints will make iPhone to bypass their encryption given that we have proved of our ownerships of the phones .

I have the same issue on my iPhone xs. One fine morning i kept my phone on charge and when i come back to check on it , i see it’s struck on Apple logo. No damage nothing . Idk what is the reason . My storage was full though. If anyone has any idea what can be done pls let me know

This is currently happening to my XR currently. I’m pretty sure it’s because I had less than 1 gb of storage left. I would’ve definitely restored it but my phone hasn’t been backed up since last year apparently. I don’t want to lose my data. It has been at least 36 hours now that my phone has been stuck in a boot loop. I have tried the different button methods, let the phone die a couple of times, and I even went to the Apple store yesterday and they told me I could update the phone but they wanted me to sign some waiver that would say it’s not their fault in case my data would be lost which made me hesitant so I just left. Does anyone know if updating the phone could actually result in data loss? I plan to update the phone through iTunes as soon as I can but I just want to make sure.

I had this problem 2 years ago with a two month old iPhone that was low on storage. I was devastated to lose precious photos of my twins while in the nicu. I still have the phone and periodically try to turn it back on hoping to someday recover the photos. I sent to a world renowned iPhone tech and was told basically it would take modern computers 30 years to bypass the encryption but to hold onto phone and maybe someday in the future it would be possible.

I had a strikingly similar experience. A little over 2 years ago I had my iPhone low on storage. It was under 6 months old and had precious pics/vids of my late pregnancy, newborn daughter, and her brothers. Our family memories gone. It was during 2020 lockdown. We talked to so many people as we were devastated with little we could do. Apple and Verizon were no help, to say the least. We were told by many tech companies that we also would not be able to get through the encryption. We could have sent it away to try, but I was too concerned. I haven’t tried it in quite sometime. I’m thinking of bringing it into Apple and giving it another go. I am confident there was a storage issue with that iPhone version. I’ve heard this similar story too many times. I’ve had several new iPhones now. Don’t ever let your phone get full on storage or even close to it. iCloud also fails. Don’t trust anything. Try to use other cameras more than your phone. Set a manual back up date to your computer and stick to it on a schedule. I did let this slip up end of last year and something similar happened. We brought the phone to Apple. I was worried it was 2020 all over again, but this time there was no lockdown and we could go try to get help.  They were able to update and save my photos! It gave me hope and I hope it gives you hope as well. I was not able to do that with the phone I got toward the end of 2019. Whatever newest version that was at the time, we were not able to update it when it shut down in spring 2020. I’d say if you have a newer version than that (I’m sorry I don’t remember!) than hopefully you can get your photos back and update. Keep up with the updates too! We were told too many annoying times how that plays a part. Take care and wish you the best of luck!
