My iPhone 3GS won’t hold charge, I have to plug it into my laptop for it to power on. It then shows the connect to iTunes screen and iTunes asks if I want to restore it. Every time I try to restore it, everything is downloaded but hallway through, iTunes gives me an error 2001 every time. I’ve tried what Apple said to do, everything is up to date but that still doesn’t help.
Looks like your battery is completely dead or not connected well to mainboard. (Maybe water damage). In this case iphone 3gs cannot be powered itself. If you connect to computer it shows itunes logo. But it doesnt restore properly since battery is not powering. You can either replace the battery or clean the battery connectors on mainboard. All sypmtoms on your iphone 3gs are pointing the battery problem. Good luck …
