i have this multi-tip screwdriver kit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DHV… it’s awsome, i love it, i highly recommend it (or something like it, since it’s out of stock right now). i have no trouble with pretty much any iphone screw i’ve encountered, except two. in this past week i’ve been unable to remove the tri-lobe screw holding the home button to the bracket on an iphone 8 and a 7+. the 3 screws holding the bracket to the display frame - absolutely no problem. but when it came to the screw holding the button, it wouldn’t budge, and even after carefully trying to fit and make sure the tip has the best grip into the screw, i ended up stripping out the screwhead. after trying ever bit i could, even a craftsman screw-out, as well as numerous other tricks, the only option left was to physically wreck the bracket to the point where i could fold and rotate it to get the screw to move and dislodge. the first failure was an anomaly, the second failure was coincidence, i’d really like to ensure there will not be a 3rd time. this is the only screw i’ve ever had issue with, not the tri-lobe in general, just the home button screw. has anyone else found this one troublesome? are there any tips/tricks/advice for dealing with this particular screw? or tri-lobes in general? or do i just have particularly crappy luck with this area of disassembly? thanks
I’ve done hundreds and only experienced this once years ago and used my Dremel…but a good quality screwdriver should work with no problems. I have been using one I bought from iPad Rehab store for quite a while now and no issues so far ;)
Invest in a quality tri wing screwdriver and only ever use that one. I have loads of mobile phone tools and only ever use one driver for tri wing screws (2uul, hint) those sets you have are not made to be quality when it comes to tiny screws. A quality driver isn’t an expensive item and worth it’s weight in gold in the long run.
