Hey, had a guy on campus come to me who was having problems with his charging port, being really dirty or something, so I tried cleaning the port and came to the conclusion to just replace it. After replacing, the phone has problems charging, and won’t charge past 5%. It still had similar problems being weird with the charging when I plugged the old port back in. I bought the replacement port on amazon and did and didn’t do anything wrong in the replacement besides for there was this tiny metal bracket that I didn’t even see on the ifixit guide and didn’t remember where it went but assumed it wasn’t really important. I am pretty nervous as I don’t know what to tell this guy who thinks I broke his phone. Everything else regarding that same part work fine, like the speaker and headphone jack. I’m hoping it’s a battery issue but I’m not sure that’s what it is and I don’t want to have to buy a new battery for it to not fix the issue. What should I do/do you think it is? Update (09/06/2019) So, I looked for what you pointed out and it seems all of those pieces are attached. I don’t believe I messed up anything. But, now the phone is going to 100% when plugged in and 1% when it’s not, then turning off about 5 minutes after that. I tried to take pictures of the battery connector so you could see what I mean.

Do a thorough visual inspection, preferably with magnification, of the area surrounding the battery connector. There are several tiny SMD components just above the connector. Of particular importance is FL2400, at the top-left of the connector. If it is missing (which can happen when you pry the connector off), then the battery state does not get communicated to the CPU and this can also cause charging issues and fluctuating readings.
