Iphone 7, with very latest OS. Issues: When i go into voice memo, I can’t hit record button. It’s grayed out. I try to facetime with someone and it immediately cancels. Place a call and the precipitant can’t hear me. Try to record video and there is no audio. Clearly something is wrong with the recording features. Also, if I go into settings–> accessibility and try to turn on or off “Noise Canceling” that selection, where it SHOULD be, is not even in the menu. Just shows Mono Audio and then that’s the last option. Strange. I did a FULL reset, including settings, of the phone and restored from icloud. Updated to most current OS, etc…..and still same issue. So I’m starting to think this isn’t software related. Is there anything else I need to check? Oh, I also checked under privacy to see if microphone was in there. Nope. Nothing at the moment. I’m open to suggestions. I’m comfortable replacing the microphone hardware; however, I want to determine if that is what is bad first, before I spend the money and time.

It is an hardware issue and is caused by the audio chip on the logic board having a weak connection to the board. This can be fixed by phone repair shops that do board level repairs / microsoldering. All the issues you have mentioned all relate to the audio IC going bad. I recommend backing up your phone as audio IC issues can cause the phone to get stuck on apple logo later on.

This is apples fault. It happens with the earliest iPhone 7s where the microphone has problems. Apple should either repair it or give u a replacement but often they do not to get more money. If they refuse when u go into the Apple store if u phone Apple care they r usually nicer and, as long as u r respectful and describe what has happened, they usually send u the replacement with less hassle. I had these EXACT issues.. I had done apple support,etc etc.. I just had a weird hunch to text help to 611-611.. they said to hold they were checking my phone… after a few minutes, came back and said good news, we found some issue, etc turn your phone off and power it back on.. I did and everything is working perfectly again??!

Im in the UK. I dont know what this 611-611 number is? Is that here too? I have problem with microphone…cant record at all in voice memos, WhatsApp or messenger, shazam button won’t work…cant answer phone without blue tooth headphones. I bought the phone in a private store (not apple store) a year ago. I think I have no rights correct?
